The main genocide specialists officially declare that the War of Israel against Gaza responds to the definition of the UN genocide.

The best specialists in the world genocide have officially declared that the War of Israel against Gaza responds to the legal definition of genocide, marking a historic intervention of main experts in the field of international law.

The International Association of Genocide scholars (IAGS), a body of academics of 500 members founded in 1994, adopted a resolution on Monday, declaring that the policies and actions of Israel in Gaza fulfill the definition of the genocide set out in the United Nations Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of the Genocide.

“This is a final declaration of experts in the field of genocide studies that what happens in the field in Gaza is the genocide,” said Melanie O’Brien, president of IAGS and professor of international law at the University of Australia-Western, addressing the Reuters news agency on Monday.

The resolution obtained overwhelming support, 86% of the members voted in favor. He called on Israel to interrupt “the deliberate attacks on civilians, including children; famine; deprivation of humanitarian aid, water, fuel and other essential elements; Sexual and reproductive violence; and forced displacement ”.

Sergey Vasiliev, professor of international law at open university in the Netherlands, told Reuters that the declaration reflected a consensus that took root in the university world. “This legal assessment has become common in the academic world, in particular in the field of genocide studies,” he said.

Ismail Al-Thawabta, head of the Gaza government media office, said that “prestigious university position is strengthening the proofs and documented facts presented to international courts”. He added that the resolution “exercises a legal and legal obligation on the international community to take urgent measures to stop crime, protect civilians and hold responsible occupation leaders”.

The resolution occurred while Israel faces a separate case at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where it is already accused of genocide.

The International Criminal Court has published arrest mandates against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Yoav Gallant Defense for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Since Israel launched his war against Gaza in October 2023, more than 63,000 Palestinians were killed, almost all residents were moved at least once and most of the Gaza buildings were destroyed or damaged.

A monitor of global hunger supported by the UN confirmed the famine in certain parts of Gaza, the direct result of the Israel’s blocking and bombing campaign which deliberately restricted food, water and drugs.

IAGS has already recognized genocides in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda, Armenia and Myanmar. The United Nations Convention he cites defines genocide as crimes committed “with the intention of destroying, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group”.

The resolution also indicated that the attack on Hamas against southern Israel on October 7, 2023 was international crimes, but stressed that these acts do not justify the genocide.

Last week, hundreds of members of the United Nations Human Rights staff urged the High Commissioner Volker Turk to explicitly label the campaign of Israel as a genocide, highlighting the growing international consensus.
