Israeli Channel 13 said that Israel is preparing for an imminent decision by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that classifies it as a “state that kills children,” on what is known as the “List of Shame.”

The channel stated in a report broadcast yesterday evening, Tuesday, that “a marathon of discussions is currently taking place in Israel in preparation for a dramatic decision within days to decide whether Israel will be included in the United Nations blacklist of countries that kill children.”

Israeli concerns relate to the annual list known in the media as the “List of Shame,” which includes parties participating in armed conflicts and committing grave violations against children.

The Israeli channel added, “According to the assessment crystallized in the discussions that took place within the National Security Council and the Israeli army, the United Nations will declare, for the first time, that the Israeli army is an organization that harms and kills children.”

The channel indicated that the upcoming UN declaration raises great concern among senior Israeli officials, because it comes against the backdrop of a series of international resolutions against Israel, and it also has practical consequences that may harm arms supplies to Israel.

On May 24, the International Court of Justice issued a decision ordering Israel to stop its attack on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

On the 20th of the same month, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, announced that he had asked the court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of committing war crimes in Gaza.

If the United Nations includes Israel on the “List of Shame,” the decision will be valid for 4 years, and the person responsible for issuing the decision finally is the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

Channel 13 said, “In Israel, they have already begun to formulate their response to the United Nations in preparation for the imminent announcement.”

Human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, had previously criticized the United Nations for what they said was an intentional refrain from including Israel on the “list of shame,” and warned that its continued exclusion from the list was causing serious harm to Palestinian children.

The Israeli occupation army has killed more than 15,000 children in Gaza since the start of its war on the Strip, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, i.e. more than 40% of the total number of martyrs.

The war that has been ongoing for about 8 months – which international experts describe as a war of extermination – has led to the death of more than 36,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 86,000, in addition to the destruction of nearly 70% of the civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals.
