Israel appointed a British expert in international law to represent it before the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the case brought against it by South Africa, in which it accuses it of committing genocide crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Haaretz newspaper said that Israel appointed British Professor Malcolm Nathan Shaw, who is considered one of the world’s most famous experts in the field of international law and works as a guest lecturer at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, to confront the case of accusing it of committing genocide crimes.

The newspaper added that Shaw has an international reputation for providing legal advice on a variety of aspects of international law, including territorial disputes, maritime law, human rights and international arbitration.

She pointed out that Professor Shaw provided consultations to the British government and many foreign governments and international organizations, and previously appeared before the Court of Justice in The Hague, the European Court of Human Rights, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, and others.

Last Friday, South Africa filed a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice, accusing Tel Aviv of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. Israel attacked South Africa, describing the move as a blood conspiracy.

On November 21, South Africa suspended its relations with Israel, in protest against its aggression against Gaza. This was preceded by South Africa summoning its Israeli ambassador to consult on the attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation army has launched a devastating aggression against Gaza, which has led to the death of 22,438 Palestinians, the injury of 57,614, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, according to the Gaza Strip authorities and the United Nations.
