Israel reportedly planted an explosive inside a shipment of pagers purchased by Hezbollah from a Taiwanese company. At 3:30 pm on Tuesday, a thousand exploded, killing 9 people.
Israel is believed to be behind the simultaneous explosion of a thousand Hezollah pagers.
According to several sources cited by the New York Times, Israeli secret services managed to booby-trap a shipment of Taiwanese pagers that Hezbollah had ordered.
Leaders of the pro-Iranian Party of God had asked its members to avoid using their mobile phones to thwart Israeli spying.
Israel allegedly infiltrated Hezbollah’s supply chain and managed to trap 3,000 AP924 pagers ordered by the Party of God from Taiwan’s Gold Apollo Company.
At 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a thousand devices vibrated simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria at the moment when a message appeared on their screen that seemed to be sent from the leadership of Hezbollah.
The death toll from the explosions reached 9 people and 2,800 injured.
A Pentagon spokesman said the United States was not involved in the explosions.
Taiwanese company Gold Apollo denies manufacturing the Hezbollah beepers that exploded. Gold Apollo claims that Hezbollah’s pagers were produced by its Hungarian partner BAC.
Israel declined to comment.
Hezbollah assures that it will “continue the fight” to support Gaza.
