Faced with increasing demand for international protection, conditions are deteriorating for asylum seekers. Outbreaks of scabies and respiratory illnesses have been reported among people camping at the asylum office in Dublin.
In Ireland, due to a lack of space in accommodation centers, hundreds of asylum seekers are forced to sleep outside. Nearly 150 tents are lined up in the streets of Dublin city in front of the headquarters of the asylum office in Dublin.
These difficult living conditions have consequences on the physical and mental health of these people. Health authorities have also reported a surge in contagious diseases like scabies.
A group of volunteers, Social Rights Ireland, declared himself overwhelmed and called on the Irish government to intervene. The tents lining the footpath outside the Mount Street International Protection Office do not reflect the scale of the worsening humanitarian problem.

“In a situation like this, without the possibility of sanitation and without a washing machine to hot wash bedding and clothes, it is very difficult to treat the disease, which is also contagious. With everyone living on top of each other, in these deplorable conditions, it will be very difficult to overcome the disease.”
