Ballistic missiles and rockets struck a military base in Iraq where US troops are deployed, US Central Command (Centcom) said on Saturday.
Iranian-backed militants attacked the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq’s Anbar province, housing U.S. and Iraqi troops. Several American soldiers suffered head injuries and at least one Iraqi soldier was injured, according to American Central Command.
The attack was claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition that includes Iranian-backed militias. The group said the strike was part of a broader resistance against the presence of US troops in Iraq, as well as a response to the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
Attacks against American forces in Iraq and Syria have increased since October 7.
