IAEA countries must discuss the relevance of passing a resolution against Iran for its lack of cooperation.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has started a three-day meeting in Vienna to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the possibility of passing a resolution against Iran.
The summit comes just days after Director General Rafael Grossi held meetings in Tehran with the Iranian government with the aim of improving cooperation.
Uranium, constituent element of the atomic bomb
A confidential report seen by The Associated Press shows that Iran defied international pressure and increased its stockpiles of enriched uranium to levels needed to make a bomb.
Uranium, a naturally occurring radioactive element, must be enriched “in order to produce fuel for certain types of nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons”the UN watchdog said.
According to the IAEA definition, an atomic weapon can be created when 42 kilograms of 60% enriched uranium are further enriched to 90%.
Several media reports, however, indicate that two confidential reports from the UN watchdog show that Iran has offered not to develop its uranium enriched up to 60% purity, on the condition that Western powers abandon their efforts in in favor of a resolution against Iran.
