Today, Friday, in Geneva, Switzerland, there were talks on the Iranian nuclear program between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakji and his counterparts in the European Union, France, Germany and Britain, on the impact of the continuous war for the eighth day between Iran and Israel.

The meeting – which American media said is held in coordination with Washington – to persuade Iran to provide strong guarantees that its nuclear program will be for civil purposes only. This is followed by a technical dialogue at the expert level.

Araqji said that the negotiations -which were attended by the representative of the European Union for Political and Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kalas -are limited to the nuclear file and regional files. He added that Iran’s missile capabilities are not negotiable with any party, and it aims to protect the country and achieve deterrence.

He rejected his country’s rejection of any dialogue with the United States in light of the continued Israeli aggression against it, adding in a television interview that Washington sent serious messages to negotiate, but Tehran rejected it, stressing that his country held the United States responsible for participating in the Israeli crimes and aggression on its soil.

Araqji said that Israel “attacked our peaceful nuclear facilities, although it is under international censorship, so we demand the signatories of the Geneva Agreement to take responsibility for the Israeli aggression against us.”

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the Europeans will make a comprehensive negotiating offer for Iran that includes the issue of financing its allies in the Middle East, and stated that European countries hope to provide a “diplomatic solution” to put an end to the war in the talks.

The talks aim – according to a German diplomatic source – to persuade the Iranian side to provide conclusive guarantees that it will only use its nuclear program for civil purposes.

The sixth round of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran – which was scheduled to be held in the Sultanate of Oman – was canceled after Israel began its unprecedented attacks on Iranian soil targeting nuclear facilities, military and civilian sites and residential neighborhoods.

Israeli position

In the opposite camp, Israeli delegate to the United Nations, Gilad Ardan, said about the Geneva talks that “if it is just another round of talks, this is something we cannot accept,” stressing “the need for real efforts to dismantle Iran’s capabilities.”

In the context, Israeli media reported that a video meeting was held on Thursday between US and Israeli officials, in which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, in addition to JD Verse Vice President and Defense Minister Beit Higseth.

The White House said on Thursday that US President Donald Trump will make a decision in the next two weeks regarding whether he would intervene to support Israel.

Since the dawn of Friday, June 13, Israel has launched unprecedented attacks on Iran, which included the bombing of nuclear facilities, missile bases, and the assassination of military leaders and nuclear scientists.

The number of Iranian victims reached 224 dead and 1277 wounded, most of them civilians, and for its part, Tehran received ballistic missiles and drones that left about 25 Israeli dead and more than 2,500 wounded, according to the statement of the Israeli Ministry of Health.
