The World Meteorological Organization said on Monday that extremist weather and climate change strongly affect social and economic development in the African continent.
In its report on the state of climate in Africa during 2024, the organization stressed that climate changes exacerbate hunger, insecurity and displacement in Africa.
The report recorded that the brown continent knew the ten years of all since the temperatures began, as the Earth’s surface temperature increased to record levels in 2024.
He explained that the waves of droughts and floods lead to “lives and destroy the paths of living.”
Celeste Solo, Secretary -General of the World Meteorological Organization, considered that the Climate Climate Report reflects “the aggravating and climate change reality throughout the continent.”
She added that it reveals a flagrant pattern of extremist weather phenomena, as some countries face unprecedented floods caused by heavy rains, while other countries suffer from constant drought and water scarcity.
The official affirmed the commitment of the World Meteorological Organization and its partners to “work with members to build the ability to withstand and enhance adaptation efforts in Africa to initiatives such as the early warning initiative for all.”
“I hope that this report will be inspired by teamwork to face the increasing challenges and successive effects,” Solo added.
It is mentioned that the report highlights the challenges facing agriculture, the environment, food security, water security and energy security; Health and education, as it stresses the chances and new tools to face these challenges.
The report called for the necessity of strengthening digital transformation and expanding its scope in Africa, highlighting that this requires more investment in infrastructure, stronger frames to exchange data, and provide more comprehensive services.
