The United Nations General Assembly decides on an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” this Tuesday.
An “apocalyptic” situation in the Gaza Strip: that’s the word used by Josep Borrell, the head of European diplomacy. According to him, the level of destruction of buildings in Gaza is equivalent to that of German cities during the Second World War.
The UN continues to warn of the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, where, according to it, the humanitarian system is “at the breaking point” because of shortages and incessant bombings. The Red Crescent denounced on Monday several “violent raids” around the Al-Amal hospital, near Khan Younes, in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
The latest Hamas report reports more than 18,200 Palestinians killed in the Israeli offensive. The IDF, for its part, deplores 105 soldiers killed.
“Worrying” information
The White House also says it is concerned by information published by the Washington Post, according to which the Israeli army used American white phosphorus munitions to target southern Lebanon in October.
“I think it is important to remember that white phosphorus has legitimate military applications, in terms of illumination or the creation of smoke to conceal movements. Obviously, any time we provide something like this to an army, we expect them to use them appropriately.” underlined the spokesperson for the American National Security Council, John Kirby.
The use of white phosphorus weapons is prohibited against civilians.
New checkpoint for humanitarian aid
The Israeli army announced Monday evening an additional checkpoint for the inspection of international humanitarian aid, before entering the Gaza Strip through Rafah.
This Tuesday, the UN General Assembly is once again discussing “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire”.
