International newspapers and websites devoted extensive space to talking about the repercussions of the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, and the latest field and political developments, after the Security Council approved an American ceasefire resolution.

According to the British newspaper “Financial Times”, the passage of the US resolution related to Gaza in the Security Council puts Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) under pressure to put an end to the conflict.

The newspaper ruled out that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would agree to a proposal that includes a final ceasefire, despite the insistence of American officials that the Israeli War Council formulated the plan announced by US President Joe Biden and approved it.

Israeli assessments concluded that Hamas is far from surrendering after more than 8 months of fighting, and the movement’s leaders are convinced that time is on their side, according to a report published by Al-Monitor.

According to the report, Israel is still far from the complete victory it aspires to, at a time when Hamas appears closer to its goals in light of an international effort pushing towards a ceasefire.

Erosion of Israeli deterrence

In turn, a report in the Israeli newspaper “Maariv” spoke of “a war in Gaza that has lost its goal in which Israeli soldiers are killed in Hamas traps, and yet the leaders maintain their positions.”

The report indicates that the Israeli army is unable to control the areas it occupies in Gaza, and is forced to fight in one place more than once and pay a heavy price.

For its part, an article in the Israeli newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” saw that the government, which caused the erosion of Israel’s deterrence force following the attack of last October 7, is now using all tricks to prevent the recruitment of Haredim, which deprives the army of the forces it desperately needs.

The article added that the Hamas attack caused Israel to lose a great deal of its prestige in the region, “so all energies must be employed to remain prepared and confront any threat.”

As for the American newspaper, The Washington Post, it said that the war on the border with Lebanon is unfolding slowly, at a time when Israel is exposed to increasing internal pressure.

She indicated that these pressures are related to stopping Hezbollah’s daily attacks and allowing the return of more than 60,000 displaced people to the northern regions, revealing that the attacks are increasing in strength and intensity over time, according to an Israeli security official.

The newspaper shows that Israeli officials are more frank than before about their desire to keep Hezbollah away from the border.
