International newspapers: The killing of journalists makes it difficult to estimate the extent of the destruction in Gaza News

In their coverage of the war on the Gaza Strip, international newspapers and news sites focused on Israel’s continued targeting of journalists and the impact of this in conveying images of destruction and killing in the Strip, and on fears of the outbreak of a comprehensive war in the Middle East.

The New York Times reported on the killing of two other journalists in Gaza, one of whom was Hamza al-Dahdouh, the son of Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent Wael al-Dahdouh, noting that some journalists were killed while covering the conflict, and some when they were in their homes or seeking refuge with their families, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The death of some journalists – the American newspaper adds – made it difficult to obtain information about the scale of the fighting and the extent of the destruction, a problem that was exacerbated by the deterioration of communications networks and the lack of permission from Israel for foreign journalists to enter Gaza.

On another topic, an article in the Guardian newspaper warned that launching US-led attacks on the Houthis in Yemen “would be a grave mistake, as it would fan the flames of a larger conflict in the Middle East.” The article stresses that the military response led by the United States and Britain to… The Red Sea attacks threaten to exacerbate the situation more broadly, and are unlikely to force the Houthis to change their tactics.

The Washington Post newspaper referred to what it said was a state of “concern among American officials” that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may see that opening an expanded battle front with Lebanon as the key to his political survival, amid internal criticism of his government’s failure to prevent the October 7 attack. Last October.

According to the same newspaper, an American intelligence assessment concluded that it would be difficult for Israel to succeed in a war against Lebanese Hezbollah amid the ongoing fighting in Gaza.

In the same context, The Sunday Times wrote that the events of recent days “threaten the outbreak of an all-out war in the Middle East, a war that would be diminished by the horrific suffering in Gaza.”

The newspaper quotes experts as saying, “It is a mistake to believe that escalation can be controlled, because it is a completely unpredictable game, and complex events that occur at the same time only lead to miscalculation.”

As for “The Hill” website, it published an article by writer Jeff Rogge, in which he said, “The Americans are using the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to try to pressure Israel to change its tactics and reconsider its strategy, while the Israelis are using World War II to justify the war and defend their decisions.”

The article adds that it is “a raging case of comparisons, and we must remember that they are merely similes, and the war between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will one day become a simile in itself.”
