International newspapers focused their attention on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempt to evade any commitment to stop the war on the Gaza Strip once and for all, and the Israeli bombing that targeted a school affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza.

The British newspaper “The Guardian” said that US President Joe Biden is aware that Netanyahu will obstruct any attempt to achieve peace, noting that the latter, by requiring Israel to return to fighting in Gaza whenever he deems it appropriate, “is not only seeking to please his political partners, but is thus rejecting an agreement that he does not want in the first place.” .

According to the newspaper, Netanyahu’s position reflects a refusal to bear accountability for his management of the conflict, and a deliberate confrontation with the US administration to achieve political gains and duplicity towards the prisoners.

In turn, an article in the British newspaper “Financial Times” considered Netanyahu a disaster for Israel, due to his failure as a leader during wartime and his lack of a plan to establish peace.

The article believes that “Israel needs a new leadership, after all the failures that occurred during the era of Netanyahu, whose only goal is to remain in office and avoid going to prison.”

Bombing an UNRWA school

For its part, the American newspaper “The New York Times” said that the scenes after the occupation targeted an UNRWA school in the Nuseirat camp in the center of the Gaza Strip highlight once again the horrific predicament that Palestinian civilians have been experiencing since the beginning of the war.

The newspaper adds, “The places they flee to are often bombed by Israeli forces,” noting that “the place was crowded with thousands of displaced people, but Israel says it targeted a site that serves as a base for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).”

In the same context, the American newspaper “Washington Post” published a report concluding that Israeli forces used American munitions in the attack, which targeted an UNRWA school in Gaza and caused the deaths of dozens.

The report was based on two weapons experts, one of whom said that “the use of a bomb, even if its diameter is small, in an area with many civilians requires reconsidering the method of its use.”

As for the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz”, it said that the war between Israel and Hezbollah has become only a matter of time, considering the diplomatic efforts led by the United States and France to calm tensions between them “will only have a temporary effect.”

According to the newspaper, all manifestations of escalation over the past days indicate that war is approaching, making it unlikely that any ceasefire agreement on the northern front will be sustainable.
