International newspapers and news sites focused their attention on the developments in the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and Tel Aviv’s increasing efforts to reoccupy and resettle the coastal strip and its repercussions.
The American Wall Street Journal said that the idea of reoccupying Gaza forever is gaining momentum in Israel, but opinion polls show that the majority of Israelis oppose such calls.
According to the newspaper, reoccupying the Gaza Strip means assigning the already exhausted Israeli army to protect the new settlers, which “portends widespread rebellion and escalating violence, and represents a direct threat to the two-state solution.”
The French website Media Part described Israel as a rogue state, and said that its war on Gaza aims to eliminate the existence of Palestine by destroying the people it represents and occupying the land that bears that name.
The article points out that Israel failed to cover up its violations that went beyond Gaza’s borders, despite its blackout policy, concluding that Israel’s behavior in the region “draws it into an existential threat.”
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “does not waste an opportunity to appear as a victim,” noting that he took advantage of the drone attack on his residence.
Netanyahu’s behavior after the incident, according to the newspaper, does not reflect much interest in the prisoners inside the tunnels, nor in the displaced settlers of the north, nor in the soldiers facing death as much as he cares about his own life and the lives of his family members.
The British Financial Times highlighted a secret report prepared by a country participating in the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which revealed that the Israeli army targeted the positions of the UN forces numerous times, resulting in the injury of 15 soldiers with white phosphorus.
The report documented the effects of destruction with pictures, and indicated that Israeli forces began directly targeting UNIFIL bases after October 8, 2023, despite international condemnation.
The American newspaper Politico touched on the growing discontent among Arab voters in the United States, especially the state of Michigan.
This came because of the position of the Democratic candidate for the US presidential elections, Kamala Harris, regarding the war on Gaza and Lebanon, which is consistent with the policy of the administration of current President Joe Biden.
The newspaper’s report notes that Arab voters who previously voted for Biden are very disappointed by “Harris’ steadfastness in her position, even with the staggering rise in the civilian death toll.”
