International newspapers: Israel is under siege and America’s commitment to international justice is purely political Programs

International newspapers and news websites shed light on the latest developments related to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, with some of them indicating Washington’s intention to play a prominent role in Gaza after the war.

According to the American New York Times newspaper, the Israeli army has expanded its attack on Rafah to the south, noting that analysts believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is exploiting external criticism to ease frustration and gain support at home.

The newspaper quoted former Israeli diplomat Alon Pinkas as saying, “Israel is not only isolated, but feels that it is under a kind of siege.”

In an article he wrote for the Hebrew newspaper “Haaretz”, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that “the responsibility has become heavy on the shoulders of the ministers who refuse to resign from Netanyahu’s bloody government,” stressing that “the time has come to stop this violence.”

Olmert added, “War Council member Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot have now become the last hope for many Israelis who do not want to live in an apartheid state. Either they leave this bloody government today, or they will bear responsibility for the destruction it causes.”

An Israeli prison in the Negev

The British newspaper The Guardian touched in a report on the Israeli Sde Teman detention center in the Negev desert, which is located 18 miles from the Gaza border.

The newspaper quoted eyewitnesses as saying that “the Palestinian prisoners suffer widespread physical and psychological violations.”

The facility includes 200 detainees – according to the newspaper – under harsh restrictions inside cages, and a field hospital where dozens of sick prisoners are held. Their hands are tied to their beds and they suffer from war injuries, and they are often deprived of painkillers.

The newspaper revealed that at least one case was reported of a man who had one of his limbs amputated as a result of injuries due to his constant handcuffing.

American role

In turn, the American Politico website said that the United States is preparing to play a prominent role in Gaza after the war, as the administration of President Joe Biden is considering appointing an American official to be the chief civilian advisor to a mostly Palestinian force.

The website quoted four American officials as saying, “The civilian advisor will be based in the region, and will work closely with the force commander, who will be either Palestinian or from one of the Arab countries.”

For her part, Oona Hathaway, a researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said in an article in the American magazine “Foreign Affairs” that “the United States makes a grave mistake when it attacks the International Criminal Court.”

Imposing sanctions on the court and its officials – according to Hathaway – would send a clear message that Washington’s commitment to international justice is not principled, but rather purely political, noting that “America should not waste its credibility in order to protect people who have recently become accustomed to ignoring all its warnings.” “.
