The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and its repercussions are attracting the attention of the international press, as well as the expansion of the conflict to the Red Sea region and its expected consequences.
An analysis by Amos Harel, editor of military and security affairs in the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, concluded that Israel is sinking into the mud of Gaza, and this may continue for many years without finding anyone to rescue it from it, while the risk of a confrontation in the West Bank is increasing.
Despite this – according to the analysis – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not rushing to look for a way out, which makes him and his allies in the government disconnected from reality.
In the same context, the Israeli newspaper “Jerusalem Post” published an article written by Nadav Tamir, in which he said, “Israel is fighting the second war of independence, and it is important to realize that America is the pillar of Israel’s security, and the only country that will save us in times of crisis.”
In order for this support to continue, Nadav says, the Israelis have the task of saving themselves from the evil racism within Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which may lead everyone to destruction.
Disaster looms on the horizon
In turn, the British newspaper “The Times” indicated that children in Gaza had their families torn apart, were displaced, disfigured and infected with diseases, and now the residents of Gaza are facing a new disaster, as the specter of famine looms on the horizon.
The newspaper quoted Jason Lee, director of Save the Children in the occupied Palestinian territories, as saying that the suffering of children in Gaza is currently unimaginable, even though it could have been avoided.
The British newspaper “The Guardian” stated in its editorial that journalists in Gaza and freedom of the press must be protected, but it added, “After the killing of dozens of media professionals in the past three months, the truth itself is threatened.”
The newspaper adds that the reporters who were injured and who suffered devastating personal losses, rushed to return to their work to tell the world what is happening to others, “and when so many die, it is necessary to ask why and work to stop the massacre.”
As for the Chinese newspaper “Chiana Daily”, it said that the West’s double standards are evident in the Gaza Strip, as “their narratives about the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine were characterized by extreme contradiction.”
The newspaper adds, “Western leaders have ignored the large number of Palestinian victims in their speeches, which reflects their complete disregard for Palestinian lives,” and then concludes, “The speech of Western politicians has become hollow, making few people take them seriously.”
Red Sea crisis
For its part, the American magazine “Foreign Policy” indicated that some analysts believe that the United States’ inclusion of the Houthis on the terrorist list carries more symbolic connotations than anything else.
The magazine quoted former US intelligence official Mick Mulroy as saying that this measure will not deter the Houthis or Iran, and attacks on shipping in the Red Sea are likely to continue.
As for writer Bradley Dress, he said in his article on the American “The Hill” website, that all indications indicate that the conflict between America and the Houthis will be long-term, and thus lead – to deepening maritime shipping disturbances, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and igniting the Middle East, in A time when Washington seeks to avoid a broader regional war.
