International newspapers focused their attention on the continuation of the Israeli ground invasion of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, despite the decision of the highest international court to stop it, as well as how the intense Israeli bombing caused a change in the face of the border city with Egypt.

In this context, the American New York Times said that there is widespread consensus among legal experts regarding the impossibility of Israel continuing its attack in Rafah without violating the order of the International Court of Justice.

The newspaper pointed out that there is widespread disagreement about what Israel can do legally, adding, “All indications now suggest the continuation of the Israeli attack, and this is inconsistent with the court’s decision.”

In the same context, the British newspaper “Financial Times” said that the Israeli Hamas campaign caused repeated transformation in the city of Rafah this month.

According to the newspaper, satellite images show that tents disappeared and some buildings were subjected to air strikes when Israel attacked what it considers the last stronghold of Hamas in Gaza, indicating that Israel carried out its attack despite the warnings of its allies.

Exchange deal

In turn, the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz” quoted an American official responding to an Israeli official who stated that the war in Gaza would continue for at least another 7 months, saying, “It is impossible to say: We will first eliminate Hamas and then conclude a deal. Israel cannot wait 7 months until a deal is reached.” To a hostage (prisoner) deal with Hamas.”

As for the American newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, it quoted sources it described as informed, saying that a rare exchange of fire – as it described it – last Monday – between Israeli forces and the Egyptian army on the border led to the killing of two Egyptian soldiers.

Palestinian state

In another context, the French newspaper Le Monde said that the suspension of the association agreement with Israel divides the Europeans, and is turning into a burning problem in Brussels, in light of the multiple violations of international humanitarian law committed by the Israeli army, as well as in light of the European election campaign 10 days before the election date. .

Regarding European countries’ recognition of the State of Palestine, the American newspaper Politico published an article by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Sture in which he said that “the Palestinian state constitutes a basic condition for achieving lasting peace in the region.”

He added, “Since the Oslo Accords 30 years ago, the general approach has been that recognition of the Palestinian state will come in the wake of a peace agreement. However, we all see that this approach is not implementable, so we can no longer wait until the conflict is resolved first.”
