In their coverage of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, international newspapers and news sites highlighted the consequences of the war from the point of view of analysts and experts, the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, and Israel’s lack of commitment to international laws.
The Wall Street Journal focused on expert analyzes that it said in a report cast doubt on Israel’s ability to achieve victory in its war against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) within the timetable that American officials seek to impose on it.
The report – based on Israeli officials and analysts – stated that Israeli forces are still facing fierce resistance that they did not expect in northern Gaza, delaying shifting their focus to the south of the Strip.
As for the Guardian newspaper, it touched on what it considered to be recent growing international anger among Israel’s closest allies against the backdrop of the significant increase in the number of deaths in the Gaza Strip and the tragedy experienced by more than a million displaced people, in the absence of sufficient food and water.
The newspaper points out questions about reports of deaths among Palestinian detainees held by Israeli forces, and others about the rules of engagement followed by the Israeli army in Gaza after the killing of the three detainees.
An article in the newspaper “Le Monde” stated that Israel constantly justifies its behavior in Gaza by saying that it relies on laws as the moral pillar that determines the course of its conflict.
But the reality – according to the newspaper – shows that implementing the laws you are talking about leads to genocide in Gaza, and “it is clear that Israel is using the law to legitimize violence in Gaza.”
On the other hand, an American public opinion poll conducted by the New York Times found that US President Joe Biden “faces widespread rejection within his electoral base regarding his policy toward the war in Gaza.”
The poll showed what the newspaper said was a division among Biden’s supposed voters, “which leaves him with few political options for manoeuvre, and also sends conflicting signals about the approach that the US administration should take as the war enters its third month.”
