International newspapers: Disappointment for America’s allies and opponents after Trump-Harris debate | Politics

International newspapers continue to talk about the repercussions of the US presidential election debate between Republican candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, in addition to the repercussions of the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Dov Zakheim, former US Undersecretary of Defense, said that America’s allies, partners and adversaries were disappointed after the debate between Trump and Harris.

In his article on The Hill, Zakheim attributed the disappointment to “the two candidates who did not provide any specific details on foreign and security policies.”

In the same context, an article in the American magazine “The National Interest” saw that the debate between Trump and Harris was characterized by ambiguity, and did not provide convincing solutions to the urgent problems facing American foreign policy.

The debate was generally superficial and confusing, and the wrong place to discuss the complex issues of our world and time, according to the article.

Regarding the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the British newspaper The Guardian said that the war on Gaza “has become a nightmare with no end in sight, even if the war ends tomorrow,” noting that the death toll will continue to rise due to the dire living conditions.

The newspaper added that the ineffectiveness of American policy has become more apparent with the deterioration of the situation in the West Bank, and the increasing fears of Israel and Hezbollah drifting towards a comprehensive war.

In turn, the American newspaper “Washington Post” indicated that children in the besieged sector face losing another school year, describing the matter as “a new painful setback that increases the shock of war and the inability to even dream.”

The newspaper pointed out that 85% of the schools in the sector need either complete reconstruction or major rehabilitation to become operational again.

For his part, an article writer in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz described Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “intellectually, morally and strategically unqualified to lead Israel,” adding, “It is enough that he is responsible for the greatest catastrophe to befall Israel since the Holocaust.”

In a related context, an article in the Israeli newspaper, The Jerusalem Post, considered that leaks about the meetings of the Security Cabinet (the Cabinet) endanger Israel’s security.

The article pointed out that what was revealed about the Philadelphi Corridor separating the Gaza Strip and Egypt “not only showed the Israeli government’s indifference to the issue of the hostages (prisoners) in Gaza, but also the undemocratic way in which decisions are made, and reveals the improper behavior of the security services.”

In another topic, Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard called on the international community in an article in the American magazine “Newsweek” to take immediate action to protect the future of humanity due to the multiple wars.

She believed that world leaders were still unable or unwilling to confront the disasters that affected millions in Gaza, Myanmar, Sudan and Ukraine, stressing the need to reconsider the use of the veto power that often paralyzes the UN Security Council.
