European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell said that US President Joe Biden’s plan is not being implemented, that starvation and bombing are continuing, and that aid is not entering the Gaza Strip. UN and humanitarian organizations have also warned of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip.
Borrell stressed the need to stop the escalation and violence in the West Bank, in addition to stopping the possible expansion of the war into Lebanon.
Borrell said, “The ceasefire approved by the UN Security Council has not yet been implemented.”
He stressed that “humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter Gaza,” adding that “what we are currently seeing is a continuation of famine and bombing.”
Borrell explained that “stopping military action, providing more humanitarian support to Gaza, and considering a political solution (to the war) are the most urgent matters” at the present time.
Disastrous situation
In the same context, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that Gazans are suffering from catastrophic hunger and children are dying of malnutrition and dehydration.
In turn, Oxfam’s Middle East director, Sally Abi Khalil, confirmed that the numbers reported regarding the level of famine in Gaza represent a shameful failure for world leaders.
In turn, the Norwegian Refugee Council warned on Thursday of an imminent famine.
The council’s education official, Majed Qishawi, spoke about the latest update on the situation in the Gaza Strip, where he said, “People have begun to suffer from famine in the central region and the south.”
He added, “All indications say that we will reach a stage where the population will have nothing to eat, if the Rafah crossing, the main source of food supplies, remains closed.”
He stressed that “the few food supplies in Gaza cannot continue forever,” explaining that “the humanitarian response south of the Gaza Valley has almost reached a halt, as a result of escalating security concerns, lack of supplies, and coordination challenges facing humanitarian organizations,” according to the statement.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that has left more than 124,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.
Israel continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it “immediately”, and the International Court of Justice orders to end the invasion of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, take measures to prevent acts of genocide, and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
