The Israeli army announced on Sunday evening that the commander of the 401st Brigade, Colonel Ihsan Daqsa, was killed and another officer was seriously wounded in battles in Jabalia with the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
Israeli media said that Daqsa was the highest-ranking military officer killed in the war launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.
Although Daqsa holds the highest military rank among those killed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, a number of colonels of the occupation army were killed in Gaza during the past months before him.
