The mother of Saleh Al-Arouri, deputy head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), said that her son’s martyrdom was “redemption for the homeland,” while his sister confirmed that he was asking for martyrdom and wishing for it in every prostration, after his assassination – Tuesday evening – in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
His mother added in an interview with Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent Guevara Al-Badiri – in the family home in the village of Aroura, north of Ramallah – that she had not seen her son for 20 years, pointing to many stages of his life and his journey of struggle in confronting the occupation, and the persecutions and imprisonment he endured more than once before being deported outside. His sister added that the last meeting between them was last year when she met him during Hajj, and she praised her brother and his belief in his cause and his trust in God, and that he was “wishing for martyrdom and seeking it while prostrating, and now he has achieved it as a sacrifice for Al-Aqsa and Palestine.”
On the other hand, social media platforms interacted with the incident of Al-Arouri’s assassination, and activists circulated video clips from his meetings before his assassination, especially those in which he spoke about the martyrs, saying, “Our blood and our souls are neither more precious nor dearer than any martyr, and it is not permissible for the mother of any martyr to She feels that the leader’s blood is dearer and more precious than the blood of her son,” adding that “the martyr who preceded us a day is better than us.”
