In response to a global movement… Lebanon closes all its institutions in solidarity with Gaza News

Yesterday, Sunday, the Lebanese Council of Ministers announced the closure of all departments and institutions in the country today, Monday, as part of a global movement calling for a strike around the world in solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinian people. The national and Islamic forces in Ramallah and Al-Bireh in the Palestinian territories also announced a comprehensive strike today.

The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Council of Ministers, Mahmoud Makiya, said in a statement yesterday, Sunday, that “Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced, according to a government memorandum, the closure of all public administrations, public institutions, and municipalities tomorrow, Monday.”

He added that this came “in response to the global call for Gaza, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people and with our people in Gaza and in the Lebanese border villages.”

In this context, the Beirut Engineers Syndicate announced the closure of its doors today, Monday, in its main center in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and its subsidiary centers in other regions.

The union declared in a statement its “solidarity with the Palestinian people in occupied Palestine and the Gaza Strip who are steadfast in the face of the brutal Zionist aggression.”

This comes in response to a global movement and widespread calls launched by activists from various parts of the world under the hashtag “StrikeForGaza” in order to implement a comprehensive global strike today, Monday, in solidarity with the people of the Gaza Strip, and to pressure governments to take action to stop the Israeli aggression.

Strike in Ramallah and Al-Bireh

In this context, the national and Islamic forces announced In Ramallah and Al-Bireh in the Palestinian Territories, a comprehensive strike for all aspects of life today, Monday.

In a statement issued last Saturday, the forces called for “going out to the streets and squares of cities, villages and camps to express the unity of blood and destiny, a victory for the defenseless innocents, and to send a message to the world that our people will stand strong against attempts of uprooting and displacement, and that our legitimate struggle will continue until freedom and independence are achieved.” According to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa).

She added, “The peoples of the entire earth will unite in the face of injustice, murder, and racism practiced by the occupying state, and will triumph for the blood of children, women, and the elderly, victims of organized state terrorism and occupation war crimes.”

She pointed out that “the world rejects the United States’ full support for the occupying state in its war on our children and our people, and rejects the veto that failed to pass a resolution in the Security Council for a ceasefire in Gaza.”

The forces explained that “the strike is a message from the living peoples to stand by our people and their legitimate rights to return, self-determination, and complete national independence in their fully sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Activists on social media platforms launched calls for a comprehensive strike around the world today, Monday, in solidarity with the people of the Gaza Strip in the face of the Israeli war machine.

The activists said that they launched a campaign to push for a global strike with the aim of pressuring governments and forcing them to take serious action to stop the Israeli massacres and genocide that have been continuing for more than two months.

Since last October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving about 18,000 martyrs and about 47,000 wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to thousands still under the rubble believed to have been martyred, and massive destruction of infrastructure. An unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
