Occupied Jerusalem- The village of Beit Attab, Jerusalem, is one of several Palestinian villages that were destroyed and its people displaced months after the Nakba that occurred in mid-May 1948, on October 21 of the same year.
According to the Palestinian National Information Center, the population of the village – located about 23 kilometers west of Jerusalem – was estimated at 626 people in 1948, while its area was estimated at about 8,757 dunums (a dunum equals a thousand square metres).
In 1948, Zionist gangs forced at least 100,000 Palestinian citizens to emigrate from about 38 villages and ruins in the Jerusalem Governorate, becoming refugees to this day.
