After experiencing severe weather, several regions in Germany and France are on alert for the risk of flooding.
While the soil is already saturated by heavy rainfall in November, bad weather has caused flooding in part of Germany. In Thuringia in particular, where the situation is considered critical. Hundreds of residents had to leave their homes as the waters rose.
In France, faced with the risk of flooding, the Pas-de-Calais department has been placed on red alert. Some residents, who have already been affected by floods in November and December, do not hide their concern.
“A second flood like the first is very, very distressing.
We wonder when it will stop and where we will be rehoused, because for the second time, it’s terrible,” explains a resident of Lumbres.
The emergency system has been strengthened, and the French Interior Ministry recommends that residents not use their cars and stay away from waterways. Several other departments in the north of the country have also been placed on orange flood alert.
