Polish Foreign Minister calls on Europe to increase arms production. This is the only way, according to him, to help Ukraine and ensure its own protection.
Europe and the West must urgently increase their weapons production capacity to support Ukraine against Russia and ensure its own defense. This is the opinion of Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Speaking to Euronews at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Radosław Sikorski said Poland was increasing its military budget but Europe as a whole was not producing enough weapons: “in our military budget, 50% is now devoted to the purchase of weapons and ammunition and we are studying ways to increase our production of armored personnel carriers, mortars and especially ammunition. We have a European funding line for munitions for Ukraine and for ourselves, but the bottleneck, I understand, is simple production capacity and we need to increase it urgently.”
Radosław Sikorski said the West had underestimated the Russian threat, but was more than capable of defending itself: “Russia and the current leaders only seem to respect strength and we must restore that strength. We are economically 20 times richer than Russia. In my lifetime Russia, as the Soviet Union, took on the West and has lost; she will lose again.”
