The traditional press conference of the Italian Prime Minister has already been postponed twice, and it finally took place today. This delay is due to the fact that Giorgia Meloni has recently suffered from several health problems. Today was the opportunity for the Prime Minister to answer a series of questions.

In fact, the press lasted almost 3 hours, tackling the most urgent subjects, from the state of the Italian economy to the next European elections. Giorgia Meloni explained that she has not yet decided whether or not she will run in these elections. She said she ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition with a left wing. Then she addressed the migrant crisis, a very sensitive subject here in Italy, given that the country has long been on the front line in the fight against illegal immigration.

And she said she was still not satisfied with her government’s results so far and more needed to be done. She added that the solution to the problem lies in investing more resources in outsourcing border control, particularly when it comes to building new partnerships with Africa. She said Africa would be the main topic of the next G7 summit to be held under the Italian presidency.

She also spoke about the new constitutional reform that her government recently proposed and which is being debated in Parliament. This reform would not change the role of the head of state, but rather it would extend the duration of the future Italian government.
