Sergei Shoigu, former Russian Minister of Defense between 2012 and May 2024. He is being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court. But he is not the only one.

Valery Guerassimov, chief of staff of the Russian army, is also the subject of an arrest warrant from the ICC. Both men are accused of being responsible for war crimes in Ukraine.

The Court refers to missile strikes carried out against electrical infrastructure on Ukrainian territory between October 2022 and March 2023.

Ukraine, which, like Russia, does not recognize the powers of the ICC, nevertheless welcomed the announcement of these arrest warrants.

After targeting Vladimir Putin more than a year ago, the ICC is now attacking these two major military figures of the country.

To carry out these arrest warrants, the Court relies on its member states. Vladimir Putin, who missed the last BRICS meeting in South Africa, now only goes to non-member countries, such as Saudi Arabia or Vietnam, where he recently visited.
