Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh, said that his statements regarding holding the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) accountable after the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had been distorted, and added that “the Palestinian Authority was the first to defend the resistance.”

During an exclusive interview with Tel Aviv Tribune, Al-Sheikh denied what was raised about the agreement with Israel regarding the seized Palestinian Authority funds, and said that what is required now is to isolate the extremist Israeli government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu at the international level.

Two days ago, Israeli Channel 12 said that Israel and the Palestinian Authority agreed on a mechanism that allows the Authority to receive the funds that Israel has been withholding since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip. It explained that the mechanism allows Israel to see the names of those who will receive the Authority’s salaries in Gaza.

The Palestinian official stressed that the Oslo Accords died and were buried under the chains of Israeli tanks, stressing that what is happening now is a comprehensive Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that the Palestinian Authority is under the Israeli hammer and does not have a million soldiers to confront the Israeli government. However, he said that the Authority “does not want to see in the West Bank the scene of killing and displacement that is happening in Gaza.”

The Sheikh noted that the path of settlement and negotiations faces difficulties due to its clash with an extreme right-wing Israeli government, and called for the necessity of reconsidering the path of armed resistance and the path of political settlement.

He stressed the need for the election fund to be the deciding factor between the settlement and resistance projects, in reference to the programs of the Authority and Hamas.

It is noteworthy that the Sheikh sparked a great wave of anger in the Palestinian street after speaking to a television channel, in which he demanded that Hamas be held accountable, noting that the priority now is a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
