Field and international reports indicate that the population of Gaza has been affected by food insecurity at a rate of nearly 100%, while vital sectors and facilities have reached the stage of collapse, in light of the continued Israeli aggression against the Strip since last October 7.
According to the latest official figures, the Israeli aggression against Gaza led to the fall of more than 38 thousand martyrs, most of whom were women and children, in addition to huge numbers of missing and wounded.
In parallel with the daily bombing of residents’ homes, Israel imposes a stifling siege on the Gaza Strip, which led to widespread famine among the residents.
An international report said that about 96% of Gaza’s population faces high levels of acute food insecurity.
According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Initiative, more than 495,000 people, or more than a fifth of Gaza’s population, face the most catastrophic levels of food insecurity.
The report stated: “The operating space available to humanitarian organizations, and the ability to safely provide assistance to the population, is constantly diminishing as the current conditions deteriorate and become highly unstable.”
The attack on Rafah caused the closure of the land crossing on the Gaza border with Egypt, which was a main route for delivering food and other supplies, in addition to being an evacuation point for seriously ill or injured civilians.
Children’s disabilities and deteriorating health status
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini announced on Tuesday that the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip leads to the amputation of the legs of 10 children every day.
“Basically, every day we have 10 children who lose their legs,” Lazzarini told reporters in Geneva. He explained that these numbers do not include children who lost hands or arms.
There are calls in Gaza about the collapse of the health sector, as hospitals are crowded with the wounded and the bodies of martyrs, with a shortage of medicines, health supplies, and a lack of fuel.
During the past eight months, the Israeli occupation destroyed large health facilities in the Gaza Strip, such as Al-Shifa Hospital, and launched many raids on other hospitals such as Al-Ma’badi, Kamal Adwan, and others, which led to huge numbers of martyrs and wounded.
The director of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza told Tel Aviv Tribune, “All hospitals are completely destroyed and targeted.”
Destroying the media to obscure the facts
A joint investigation by 13 international media outlets said that Israel systematically destroyed the media infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
The report explained that Israel targeted with tanks cameras that provide live images from Gaza to several agencies.
The Israeli aggression led to the martyrdom of many journalists and their families in the Gaza Strip.
Warning of chaos
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that chaos is prevailing in the Gaza Strip with the formation of smuggling gangs, which increases the difficulties in delivering aid.
Lazzarini added in an interview with reporters, “In principle, these days we are facing an almost complete collapse of law and order,” holding gangs involved in cigarette smuggling part of the responsibility for that.
