Over the years, the U.S. government has created special mechanisms to protect Israel from sanctions intended to punish countries responsible for human rights violations.

President Joe Biden suspended arms shipments to Israel and acknowledged that U.S. weapons had been used by Israel to kill Palestinian civilians, but the U.S. State Department refused to declare whether Israel had violated U.S. laws or international in its war against Gaza.
