Israeli military intelligence believes that only a quarter of the Palestinian prisoners in Gaza owned by Israel are combatants, according to a joint investigation published Thursday by Israeli-Palestinian +972 magazine, the local call of the Hebrew magazine and the British newspaper The Guardian.
Among the detained persons are thousands of arrests under the legislation of the illegal fighters of Israel, which allows the authorities to grasp individuals if they believe that they are linked to organizations deemed “illegal”, like Hamas, even if they cannot link the individual to a specific act.

The joint investigation revealed that one of the detained persons was an 82 -year -old woman with Alzheimer’s who was imprisoned for six weeks, and a single mother separated from her young children, whom she found later asking me on the street.

What does the investigation be found?
Investigators examined a confidential Israeli military database, which would be considered by commanders as the most specific information on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad combatants (PIJ) in Gaza. The database contains the names of more than 47,000 people believed by Israel Intelligence as members of armed groups.
However, out of these 47,000, only 1,450 were listed as arrested in May, which means that other Palestinians owned – three quarters of the 6,000 Palestinians detained by Israel at the time – had not been classified as Hamas or PIJ fighters.
The database excludes members of other armed groups in Gaza, which are reported by the Israeli prison service to represent less than 2% of all prisoners of “illegal fighters”.
What about those of criminal detention?
In addition to those detained as “illegal fighters”, up to 300 Palestinians are detained in Israel for charges related to October 7 attacks.
They are classified as criminal detainees because Israel claims to have enough evidence to continue them, but has not yet done it.
Throughout his war against Gaza, Israel has always been accused of deliberately erroneous civilians such as “terrorists”, including many journalists.
A March report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz posted accounts for Israeli defense officials and soldiers admitting that, out of the 9,000 fighters, Israel claimed to have killed at the time, most were, in fact, civilians.
A previous report published at the end of August by +972, the local call, and the Guardian, based on the same database database, showed that Israel knew that 83% of people killed in Gaza during the war were probably civilians.
Who is Israel accused of being an illegal fighter?

A soldier who had been stationed in the notorious that the SDE Teiman detention center in southern Israel was cited in the investigation as indicating that a section of the prison was called “the geriatric pen” because he only presented older or seriously injured prisoners.

Among these prisoners, Fahamiya al-Khalidi, an Alzheimer’s patient, 82, who was taken from Gaza City in December 2023 alongside her caregiver and owned as an illegal fighter for six weeks, according to the prison archives.
A military doctor at the Anatot detention center reported that she was confused, unable to remember her age and believed that she was still in Gaza after being injured at a fence.
The same doctor who saw Khalidi also said that he had treated a woman suffering from severe bleeding after a miscarriage, as well as a breastfed mother who had been separated from her infant and asked for a pump to prevent her milk from drying.
What are the conditions in Israeli prisons?

In February 183, the Palestinian prisoners, many of whom had been detained without accusation, emerged glove, fragile and stained with dirt within the framework of an exchange of prisoners with Israel. The testimonies of denunciators and the video evidence documented the rape of Palestinian prisoners by Israeli guards, and at least 75 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli police custody since October 2023.
