Israel expands operations in the south
In early December, the Israeli army expanded its ground operations to Khan Younis in the south, once again forcing hundreds of thousands of people to move.
Due to a lack of shelter, many people had no choice but to sleep on the streets.

Nowhere is safe
On December 4, the Israeli military published a map online that divides the besieged enclave into more than 600 numbered areas.
However, with limited electricity and internet, many were unable to access evacuation details available via a QR code on leaflets dropped by the Israeli army.
On December 5, UN emergency relief coordinator Martin Griffiths echoed what so many people in Gaza were saying: “Nowhere is safe in Gaza. No hospitals, no shelters, no refugee camps. No one is safe. Not the children. Not health workers. Not humanitarians. Such blatant disregard for basic humanity must stop. The fighting must stop.
