Faced with Houthi attacks in the Red Sea in recent weeks, Washington and London are responding. Several airstrikes were carried out this weekend on Houthi targets across Yemen.

A military operation which does not seem to stop the rebels, who targeted an American ship on Monday in the Gulf of Aden.

The United States and the United Kingdom assured that their joint operation was timely. But could act again if boat attacks in the Red Sea continue.

Their behavior in the Red Sea is completely unacceptable. (…) We will monitor developments very closely and if we need to take further action, we will consider it. But our intention was to send a very clear message to the Houthis, and I think that is what has been done so far“, said Grant Shapps, Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom.

The Houthi rebels, who control a large part of Yemen, say they are targeting ships linked to Israel to stop its offensive in the Gaza Strip. Around 12% of global trade passes through the Red Sea. Trade disrupted by these attacks, the economic consequences of which are already being felt.
