The military and strategic expert, Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi, said that the ambush carried out by the Al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – against an Israeli force inside one of the Gaza City tunnels, shows the resistance’s management of the battle efficiently and competently.
Al-Duwairi explained – during his analysis for Tel Aviv Tribune – that the video shows that the occupation army members took all precautionary measures with great precision, noting the use of a drone capable of filming, and the introduction of trained dogs carrying cameras and transmitters, in addition to lowering a surveillance camera and lighting devices inside the tunnel in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood. North Gaza.
He explained that the occupation soldiers took three effective steps and entered with the utmost caution. However, the Qassam personnel were smarter, describing what was happening as fit to be part of a Hollywood movie.
He pointed to the calm nerves of the Qassam commander who was directing his comrades through the brigades’ communications network, stressing that the Gaza tunnels were designed in an engineering manner to achieve specific goals, and whoever designed them knew what he wanted, and they were built on the basis of the worst possibilities.
He stressed that Israel did not take into account the resistance tunnels, pointing out that the occupation’s problem lies in weak intelligence and battle management. He also recalled reports of a state of restlessness and discontent among the soldiers. Due to lack of ammunition and support.
Regarding the reasons for the occupation’s insistence on entering the tunnels instead of bombing them, the strategic expert indicated that it is considered a black box, and may lead him to the attack tunnel network, “so the same mistake is repeated,” indicating that blowing up the tunnel openings is different; Because the soldiers are outside.
As for the number of tunnels discovered by Israel in Gaza, Al-Duwairi said that we are talking about dozens of tunnels, which means that the maximum reaches 100, while there are 1,300 tunnels in the Strip with a length between 500 and 570 kilometers, and at different levels and depths that may reach 80 metres.
He added that the occupation succeeded in destroying some tunnels after destroying entire residential squares, before praising the success of the resistance factions in managing the defensive battle, after the occupation failed to neutralize the tunnels despite resorting to flooding them with water and using trained dogs, robots and other methods.
He pointed out that Washington advised Tel Aviv not to enter Gaza by land, but the latter did not comply, stressing that Israel must be convinced that the destruction of Hamas is “closer to fantasy than reality,” and it must accept what the Biden administration is proposing.
