He fought in Gaza and then committed suicide… An uproar in Israel over the refusal to bury a soldier with military ceremonies | News

Eliran Mizrahi, an Israeli reserve soldier in the engineering corps, participated for 5 months in the war on Gaza, and shared videos with his followers on social media platforms showing his destruction of homes in Gaza. In all his pictures, Mizrahi seemed to be happy and proud of his fight and killing of the Palestinians.

However, social media platforms often reflect an unreal image that is far from reality. Yesterday, Sunday, Israeli radio reported that a soldier committed suicide after receiving an order to return to military service in the Gaza Strip.

After this testimony, news began to spread on Israeli social media platforms about the suicide of soldier Eliran Mizrahi, because he was called to fight again while suffering from psychological disorders after the war. It is natural, as an Israeli soldier who participated in the extermination of the people of Gaza, that the Israeli Ministry of Defense would hold a decent military funeral for him.

But what happened was the opposite, as press reports stated that the ministry refused to bury Mizrahi in a military manner, because he was not officially in service.

With the state’s refusal to bury Mizrahi military, his sister released a video clip and sent a message to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, asking him to intervene in order to free her brother’s body, which is being held at the Forensic Medicine Institute.

She said in her video message, “Do not keep him there until the Feast of Firstfruits (Shavuot), which falls on Tuesday and Wednesday. Take him out of there. Do not keep him there, I am begging.”

She added, “Gallant, I am addressing you. I am well aware that the file is on your table. My brother is in Abu Kabir. He is lying there dead and waiting for your answer..”

As news spread that the Israeli authorities refused to recognize Mizrahi as a soldier and bury him with military ceremonies, social media platforms exploded with the news, and a state of anger and denunciation prevailed among Israeli bloggers.

A campaign began on social media demanding that the Israeli government bury the reservist with a military ceremony. Knesset member Yulia Malinovsky sent a letter to Defense Minister Gallant demanding that he bury the reservist as a soldier in the occupation army. She said in a blog post on the X platform, “The security apparatus must realize that the procedures What happened before October 7th is no longer appropriate for this day, as reality is stronger than any measure.”

She added in her blog post that the security establishment is expected to understand the reality and change procedures, or to be flexible in exceptional cases, as in the case of Eliran Mizrahi, who ended his life as a direct result of the shock he suffered while evacuating the bodies. The family’s justified wish must be respected and Eliran should be buried military.

Others commented on the Ministry of Defense’s refusal to bury him military by saying, “What we must do is recognize him as a member of the Israeli Defense Forces and allow him to be buried in a military burial. He ended his life because of his service in the army and his contribution and sacrifices for the country at the expense of his life.”

As for Mizrahi’s suffering from psychological disorders after the war in Gaza, one of the tweeters commented on the case by saying, “Unfortunately, the case of the late Eliran Mizrahi will be just the beginning, and Israel in 2024 is not able or prepared to deal with the tsunami of fighters who will need mental rehabilitation.” Because of the war in Gaza.

One of the tweeters said that Mizrahi sacrificed himself for the state, but the state abandoned him and his family.

Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that 10 officers and soldiers of the occupation have committed suicide since the seventh of last October, a number of whom committed suicide during the battles in the settlements surrounding Gaza.
