Hamas rejects Israel’s “formulation” to extend the first phase of the ceasefire of Gaza | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

The uncertainty in Gaza as a Palestinian group does not say current talks for the second phase of the truce even if the first phase expires on Saturday.

While the first phase of the ceasefire of the Israel-Hamas in Gaza is coming to an end, negotiations on the next step, aimed at securing a permanent truce, have so far not been conclusive.

Hamas rejected the “formulation” of Israel on Saturday to extend the first phase of the ceasefire instead of going to the second phase as originally planned, the unacceptable calling.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem told Al Arabby TV that no talks were held for a second ceasefire phase even if the first phase should expire on Saturday.

Qassem said ISRAEL is responsible for not starting the second phase negotiations, accusing him of wanting to recover the remaining captives of Gaza while retaining the possibility of resuming war.

His comments come a day after Hamas urged Israel to go to the second phase and confirmed his “full commitment to implement all the terms of the agreement in all its stages and details”.

Heads of Israel joined mediators from Qatar and the United States in Cairo on Thursday for “intensive discussions”, the Egyptian state service announced on Friday. However, these negotiations apparently had no fruit.

Discussions on the second phase of the ceasefire are intended to negotiate a complete end to the fighting in Gaza, including the return of all the remaining captives and the complete removal of the Israeli forces of the territory.

According to Israel, there are 59 captives in Gaza, 24 of which are still considered alive.

Thursday, the Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Saar told journalists: “We have said that we are ready to extend the framework (of the first phase) in exchange for the release of more hostages. If possible, we will.

‘No return’

Sami Al-Arian, professor at the University of Istanbul Zaim, said that he was not clear what would happen next.

“American envoy Steve Witkoff said he wanted to explore the idea of extending the first phase, which is the Israeli position,” he told Tel Aviv Tribune. “It is therefore bad news for any negotiation because Hamas will not accept this.”

Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations said on several occasions that the ceasefire should continue if they wanted to provide essential aid to the Palestinians in the coastal enclave, which was devastated for 15 months of war.

“The impact of secure and sustained humanitarian access is obvious,” said the global food program in an article on X. “The ceasefire must hold. He cannot return.

The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Friday that the next few days were “critical” for talks on the second phase of the ceasefire.

“The liberation agreement of ceasefire and hostage must be maintained. The next few days are essential. The parties must not save any effort to avoid a distribution of this agreement, “Guterres told journalists at the UN headquarters in New York.

Fear of fighting the recovery

Tareq Abu Azzoum of Tel Aviv Tribune, postponing from Gaza, said that there could be “an increase” of military activity “because there are no more obligations to support the ceasefire”.

“It was left in the air while the mediators try to contain this crisis and prevent a return to fighting which will only bring new devastation to the inhabitants of Gaza,” he added.

While the ceasefire has been held since its beginning on January 19, the Gaza Government Media Office (GMO) reported more than 350 violations of Israel, including military incursions, shots, air strikes, intensified surveillance and obstruction of aid since the start of the ceasefire.

According to the GMO, the Israeli army has killed and injured dozens of Palestinians through air strikes as well as shots from the entry into force of the ceasefire.

The GMO previously pointed out delays by allowing displaced families to return to the northern areas of Gaza as well as gaps in the agreed levels authorized in the enclave.
