The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) demanded that international observers be sent to Gaza Strip hospitals to refute the occupation’s lies and allegations regarding their use for military purposes, after the recent Israeli aggression against Kamal Adwan Hospital, burning it and arresting those who were in it, which put it out of service.
The movement said in a statement that the occupation army’s continued targeting and systematic destruction of medical facilities and hospitals, the latest of which is Kamal Adwan Hospital, holds the United Nations and the international system historical responsibility for its failure to stop the war of genocide.
The Israeli army claimed that this hospital is considered a center for the Hamas movement in the northern Gaza Strip, and claimed that gunmen worked from it throughout the war, something the movement categorically denied.
Hamas called on the United Nations and all relevant international institutions to intervene urgently, in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law, to protect the remaining hospitals and medical facilities in the north and supply them with medical materials.
The day before yesterday, Friday, the Israeli army stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, before setting it on fire and putting it completely out of service. Not only that, but it detained more than 350 people who were inside it, including 180 medical personnel and 75 wounded and sick people and their companions, and took them to an unknown destination, according to Statement by the government media office in Gaza.
Later, the occupation forces released about 400 people, including medical personnel who had been arrested when they stormed the hospital, while keeping the hospital director, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, in detention without disclosing any information about him.
Those released gave testimonies about the abuse they were subjected to inside the hospital, being beaten with rifle butts, and being kept for long hours on the ground in the extreme cold.
In this regard, the World Health Organization said – in a statement yesterday, Saturday – that it was astonished by the raid that targeted Kamal Adwan Hospital, on Friday, which put the last major hospital in the northern Gaza Strip out of service.
She stressed that the systematic destruction of the health system and the siege of Gaza that has continued for more than 80 days endanger the lives of the remaining 75,000 Palestinians in the region.
The statement also indicated that the World Health Organization has confirmed that at least 50 attacks have occurred on or near Kamal Adwan Hospital since the beginning of October 2024.
Since the occupation army’s attack on the North Governorate on October 5, coinciding with an applied military siege, the hospital has been subjected to dozens of attacks with missiles and fire, with a health official saying that the army considers it a “military target.”
This operation caused the health system to be almost completely out of service, according to statements by government officials, in addition to stopping the work of the civil defense apparatus and ambulances belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
With American support, since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza that left more than 153,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst… Humanitarian disasters in the world.
