A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Sunday to participate in a new round of ceasefire negotiations, but without commenting on the chances of reaching an agreement.

No delegation was sent to the Israeli side, because Tel Aviv claims that Hamas had not provided the list of hostages still alive, nor the names of the people “more vulnerable”which should be released as a priority.

For its part, Washington reiterated that it was time for the Islamist movement to approve this agreement which has already been “more or less accepted” by Israel. The truce could come into effect before Ramadan, which begins on March 10 and 11.

Pope Francis also encouraged the belligerents to continue negotiations “for an immediate ceasefire” during his Sunday speech in St. Peter’s Square.

Meanwhile, the UN special rapporteur on the right to food, Michael Fakhri, called for sanctions against Israel. According to him, a famine could already affect many Gazans, and a truce would be the only solution to put an end to this situation.
