Hamas condemns the imposition of US-British sanctions on it News

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned the announcement by the administration of US President Joe Biden and the British government to impose sanctions on leading figures and members of the movement.

The movement said that the American-British measures “fall within the complicity of the two governments with the Zionist entity in its aggression against our people.”

Hamas added, “The unfair American-British decision will not deter us from continuing our duty to defend our people’s legitimate national rights.”

Earlier, the US State Department announced the imposition of sanctions on 8 officials of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements and people who allegedly provided financial support to the two movements.

The US and British sanctions list included Mahmoud Al-Zahar, one of the founders of Hamas, Hamas officials residing in Lebanon, Ali Baraka and Maher Obaid, Akram Al-Ajouri, Deputy Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad movement, and Lebanese and Algerian businessmen, namely: Khaled Shoman, Reda Ali Khamis, and Ayman Ahmed Al-Dweik. To provide financial support and mediation to Hamas.

Commenting on this issue, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said in a statement, “Today’s sanctions decisions will prevent Hamas and Jihad from accessing funding and will isolate them in the future.”

Cameron stressed that his country will continue to work with its partners to reach a long-term political solution so that Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace, he said.
