Haitian Prime Minister announces his resignation


The departure of Ariel Henry was demanded by gangs who are sowing chaos in the Haitian capital

It was the Head of State of Guyana and President of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who announced the resignation of the Haitian Prime Minister following a crisis meeting in Jamaica.

Mohamed Irfaan Ali said:happy“to be able to announce”a transitional governance agreement paving the way for a peaceful transition of power, continuity of governance, a short-term security action plan and free and fair elections“.

The transition council should include members of Haitian civil society.

The country had its last elections in 2016 and the prime minister should have left office at the beginning of February.
