Haiti: massacre in the south of Port-au-Prince


At least twelve people murdered in Pétionville, a southern suburb of Port-au-Prince.

The remains of at least twelve people found in Pétionville, an upscale suburb south of Port-au-Prince.

The massacre took place before dawn on Monday in the districts of Laboule and Thomassin.

According to eyewitness accounts, gangs stormed homes, a bank and a gas station before massacring the population.

The residence of a judge of the Court of Auditors is among the vandalized residences.

The attack comes a week after the announcement of Ariel Henry’s resignation from his post as Prime Minister.

Political parties are responsible for setting up a presidential transitional council.

The US State Department understands that the composition of the council should be finalized soon.

For their part, the United States chartered a charter flight and exfiltrated around thirty of its nationals this Monday.

Washington announces the establishment of a few evacuation flights departing from Cap-Haitien airport, Port-au-Prince airport.

Each passenger must sign the commitment to reimburse the price of their ticket to the government.

The US State Department specifies that it is not able to ensure the safety of passengers during their journey to the airport.

Apart from these exceptional flights, Cap-Haitien also remains closed.
