The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the suicide rates of Israeli soldiers during the performance of the active service in the army are witnessing an increase compared to previous years.

According to the newspaper, at least 15 Israeli soldiers have ended their lives since the beginning of the year 2025, while 21 soldiers committed suicide during the previous year 2024.

The newspaper pointed out that the majority of the suicide soldiers are the reserve forces in active service.

Haaretz quoted Israeli military sources as saying that a large percentage of suicide soldiers were subjected to situations during the fighting greatly affected their psychological status.

The third soldier in days

The Israeli Channel 12 reported that an Israeli soldier participated in the Gaza war in the third suicide of soldiers in only a week and a half.

On Monday evening, Israeli media reported that a soldier who participated in the war on Gaza, the third to put an end to his life within 10 days.

The Israeli army radio said that the soldier from the Nahhal Brigade committed suicide on Monday morning at a military base in the Golan Heights.

For its part, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the suicide military fought in Gaza for more than a year.

Last week, a soldier in the Golani Brigade also committed suicide in the war on Gaza by shooting himself at the base of Sadi Timan in the Negev desert.

This soldier committed suicide after undergoing an investigation with the military investigating police, and the Haaretz newspaper said that after the investigation he decided to withdraw his weapon from him, and after hours he took the weapon of his companion and shot himself.

In the same week, the Israeli website “Walla” reported that a soldier committed suicide after his continuous suffering during the long months of the war on Gaza and Lebanon and after the atrocities and woes of this war.

According to Israeli media, at least 44 soldiers committed suicide since the Israeli war began on Gaza on October 7, 2023, due to psychological symptoms resulting from the fighting.

The army faces one of the most dangerous crises

On the other hand, the Institute of Israeli National Security Studies said that the occupation army faces one of the most dangerous crises of manpower in its history. He pointed out that the army needs tens of thousands of soldiers in light of the attrition and fighting on multiple fronts.

According to the Institute of Israeli National Security Studies, 71% believe that the exemption of most of the Haredi Jews from service will harm the motives of service, while 42% of Israelis believe that the exemption of Haridim will affect the encouragement of their children to join the army.

The Israeli occupation forces are facing a military crisis that was manifested in their resort to use the elite and commando units in carrying out traditional infantry tasks, in a tactical move revealing the depth of the numerical deficiency of these forces in the Gaza Strip.

Specialized elite units – such as units affiliated with the Commando Brigade in the 98 Persons – lack the necessary training on traditional infantry tasks, and this makes their use in this context ineffective.

The Israeli Channel 12 conveyed testimonies of soldiers who said that their leadership is negotiating with them regarding the extension of the military service period for an additional year, and Israeli soldiers also participated in military activities that take 12 hours.

The mankind crisis is reflected in attempts to prolong the recruitment periods and extend the service, and this increases the state of grumbling and exhaustion among the soldiers.

The occupation cannot achieve actual control on the ground by force in light of this numerical deficiency, especially with the expansion of the area to be controlled and the need for large wild sectors to ensure this control.

According to the Israeli army radio, more than 890 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war, and more than 10,000 soldiers were injured during the war on the Gaza Strip. While about 20,000 soldiers suffer from post -trauma symptoms, according to the Israeli Channel 12.
