UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres described what is happening in Gaza as a “ethical crisis that defies the global conscience”, and not just a humanitarian crisis, stressing that the words do not feed the hungry children there.
In his video – Friday – Guterres, Guterres confirmed to the International Association of Amnesty International, which holds its works in the Czech capital Prague, that nothing could justify the “death and destruction” in Gaza since the attacks carried out by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023, reiterating it.
“The size and scope of these events exceed anything we have seen recently,” Guterres said, adding, “I cannot explain the level of indifference and inaction that we see by many in the international community, lack of mercy, lack of truth and lack of humanity.”
The Secretary -General of the United Nations stated that the organization’s employees in Gaza “are starving in front of our eyes,” while many of them announced that the unimaginable circumstances have made them “so numb and exhausted that they say that they do not feel that they are dead or alive.”
“Children want heaven”
He added, “Children talk about their desire to go to heaven, because they are at least as they say they will find food there.”
“The United Nations will raise the sound at every opportunity, but the words do not feed the hungry children,” Guterres said.
The Secretary -General of the United Nations stated that since last May 27, the organization has recorded the killing of “more than a thousand Palestinians while trying to obtain food,” adding, “They were not killed in the fighting, but in a state of despair while all the population is starving.”
Guterres also stressed the need to work to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and to release all detainees immediately and without restriction, and immediate human arrival without obstacle, and highlighted the importance of taking “urgent and tangible steps that are irreversible towards a two -state solution.”
He announced that the United Nations stands ready to benefit from the maximum possible ceasefire in order to greatly expand the scope of humanitarian operations throughout the Gaza Strip, as it did during the previous truce period.
