UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres stressed on Friday the refusal to participate in any plan in Gaza that does not respect the law and humanitarian principles in the Gaza Strip, which is exposed to the war of extermination of a group of the Israeli occupation army since October 7, 2023.
Guterres’s comments come in response to Israel’s announcement that it has dealt with an American aid distribution company in the sector, instead of leaving the task for the relevant UN agencies.
“The United Nations will not participate in any plan that does not respect international law, humanitarian principles, integrity and independence,” Guterres said.
The Secretary -General of the United Nations said that “80% of Gaza is classified either an Israeli military zone or its inhabitants ordered to leave.”
He called for facilitating inspection procedures at the crossings and working to distribute aid to the residents of Gaza.
“Without introducing aid to Gaza, many will be killed,” he added.
Israel reminded that it had clear obligations under international law and it must treat civilians with humanity while respecting their dignity.
When does the European Union move?
As for Claudio Franka Villa, assistant director of Human Rights Watch, he asked: When will the European Union move to make Israel respect international law?
“It was not necessary 80 days to move to save the Gaza Strip,” he said.
For his part, the Norwegian Minister of International Development, Ashmond Okkras, called for respecting international law and allowing organizations to introduce aid to Gaza.
“The war must be stopped in Gaza and we must move because the number of dead and wounded is increasing every day,” he said in statements to the island.
He added, “What is happening in Gaza is a violation of international law, and all aid must be delivered to the sector
The Norwegian Minister described the situation in Gaza as disappointing, as humanitarian aid is used as a weapon.
