Guterres: Israel prevented us from using the Palestinian police to secure aid in Gaza News

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that Israel prevented the United Nations from using the Palestinian civilian police to secure humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, amid chaos and complete lack of security in the Strip.

Guterres called for a ceasefire in Gaza, and told reporters on Friday that there is complete chaos in Gaza and there is no authority in most areas of the Strip.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said, “We face extreme difficulty in distributing (humanitarian aid) inside Gaza, and there must be a mechanism to ensure the availability of the minimum level of law and order that allows this distribution to take place.”

He added, “This is why it is very necessary for a ceasefire, until proper organization is achieved and a plan is implemented for this purpose.”

For his part, United Nations spokesman Farhan Haq said on Friday that in addition to the war, the threat of crime “effectively prevents humanitarian aid from reaching vital areas, including the Kerem Shalom crossing.”

Haq called on the Israeli authorities to bear their responsibility, and said, “The Israeli authorities, as the occupying power, must restore public order and safety as much as possible and facilitate safe access to humanitarian aid so that the assistance reaches the civilians who desperately need it.”

The United Nations has repeatedly warned of the spread of famine in Gaza, and its consequences for the population of the Strip, which exceeds two million people, more than 8 months after the Israeli aggression on the Strip.
