The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries expressed their rejection of foreign interventions in Syria, and they also expressed their support for the Qatari-Egyptian mediation efforts for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

At the conclusion of their meeting in Kuwait – today, Thursday – the statement stated that the ministers affirmed their “rejection of foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs,” and their firm and permanent support for the Palestinian people, while looking forward to the success of the Qatari-Egyptian mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya said that the stability of Syria and Lebanon is a “top priority” for the Arab countries, and he added in a speech during the meeting, “Our responsibility is not a political obligation, but rather a moral and humanitarian duty towards sister peoples with whom we are bound by bonds of brotherhood and considerations of history, geography, and common culture.”

He continued, “From this standpoint, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries affirm their adherence to the basic principles that guarantee the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria. We express our rejection of forms of external interference and our support and support for the administration of the Syrian people, as they are the only ones authorized to decide their future.”

Al-Yahya called for “the resumption of the comprehensive political process that ensures the participation of all parties in a way that contributes to achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability and prosperity.”

He said that the Council countries renew their firm position in support of the just Palestinian cause and affirm that the rights of the Palestinian people are inalienable, foremost of which is their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He renewed his call on the international community to assume its responsibility to stop the Israeli attacks and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and medical supplies to meet the basic needs of the residents of Gaza.
