Guinea weakened by “a small virus” before its elimination by DR Congo


From our special correspondent in Abidjan – DR Congo got the better of Guinea on Friday in the quarter-finals of CAN 2024 (3-1). After the match, Syli national goalkeeper Ibrahim Koné presented himself in the mixed zone, revealing that “a small virus was hanging around in the Guinean group” before the quarter-final. However, he clarified that “this is not an excuse” for their defeat on the field.

Guinea took the match from the right end, Friday February 2, against DR Congo by opening the score, before finally losing to the Leopards (3-1). In the quarter-finals of CAN 2024, Chancel Mbemba’s gang finally mastered their subject against a national Syli who had difficulty reacting.

To explain this poor Guinean form at the end of the match, part of the answer was given in the mixed zone by their goalkeeper. According to Ibrahim Koné, several Guinea players had to deal with a “small virus” before the match against DR Congo.

“It’s not an excuse, but there was a small virus hanging around the group. Five or six players, including me, were affected,” detailed the national Syli goalkeeper after the match. “We missed training two days before, it wasn’t easy. Afterwards, that’s no excuse, DR Congo was stronger this evening and I congratulate them.”
