United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, described the disguise of occupation army soldiers as relief workers during the process of retrieving prisoners in the Nuseirat camp in the Gaza Strip as a devastating and devastating blow to humanitarian operations.
This came after the American ABC network quoted two Israeli security sources as saying that “Israeli special forces disguised themselves as refugees during the hostage rescue operation in Nuseirat.”
In turn, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society denounced the use of an aid truck by Israeli forces during the operation to recover 4 prisoners, considering it a war crime that could endanger the safety of relief workers.
Griffiths pointed out – during his speech to Tel Aviv Tribune – that if these accusations are proven, “it is worrying to us,” describing the matter as “a devastating blow to the humanitarian operations in Gaza.”
He stressed that any method of bringing aid into Gaza, including the American floating port off the coast of Gaza, is welcome, as the contract was made according to the fact that there will be no problem between military operations, the distribution of aid and its delivery to those who deserve it, adding that our principles are based on neutrality, integrity and impartiality.
But he added that the United Nations is conducting its security assessment according to developments on the ground, and “it will stop if any operation is, in one way or another, part of the battle.”
He stressed the need to protect the security of humanitarian workers in light of the tragedy they are experiencing, noting that the number of workers killed in Gaza during the war is 12 times more than those killed in the world in recent years.
Amman Conference
Regarding the emergency humanitarian response conference for Gaza, which was held in Jordan on Tuesday, the UN official revealed that the conference’s message is based on the necessity of delivering aid to Gaza, in accordance with what is dictated by international humanitarian law.
Griffiths explained that “many countries and organizations sent a message at the Dead Sea conference about the necessity of respecting humanitarian law in Gaza.”
He stressed the need for more crossing points into the Gaza Strip “so that we can stop famine and flood Gaza with humanitarian aid.”
He also stressed the importance of stopping the Israeli war on Gaza, opening the crossings and bringing in fuel “to make people breathe,” adding that Israel, as an occupying power, must “commit to delivering aid to Gaza.”
Participants in the Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference had called for allowing humanitarian aid to enter the occupied Gaza Strip, and to put pressure on Israel not to use the weapon of starvation against the residents of the Gaza Strip. They stressed that there was no safe zone in Gaza.
The Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference will be held on the shore of the Dead Sea, jointly organized by the United Nations, Jordan, and Egypt, in the presence of representatives of 75 countries and heads of international humanitarian and relief organizations. It aims to “identify ways to strengthen the international community’s response to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip,” according to a statement by the Jordanian Royal Court. .
