Israeli writer Gideon Levy said that this is the right time for all Israelis to ask themselves whether they are prepared to live in a country that feeds on blood.
Addressing his people, he added, “Don’t just say that there is no other choice before you, and that there is of course a choice, but first we must ask ourselves, are we prepared to live this way? Do we, the Israelis, want to live in the only country in the world that depends on blood for its existence?”
He stated in his article in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that the only prevailing vision in Israel at present is to accept living “from one war to another, from one bloodshed to another, from one massacre to another, with as wide a time interval between one war and another as possible.”
rogue state
Levy sounded pessimistic that Israel has no other plan on the table, adding that optimists promise long periods of hiatus between wars, while far-right supporters warn of a reality “drenched in the blood of wars, mass killings, systematic violations of international law, and a rogue state that is in an endless spiral.”
The writer asks again: Will the Palestinians be doomed to always be subjected to massacres, and will the Israelis continue to turn a blind eye to this?
He answers that it is difficult to accept this situation, because the time will come when the Israelis will open their eyes and realize that their state lives on blood, “without bloodshed we will not exist, as we were told.”
You can’t stay
He expressed his belief that a state of this nature would not be able to survive forever, and that the Israelis are convinced that their country will not exist unless there is a sacrifice of blood, “every 3 years there is bloodshed in Gaza, and every 4 years in Lebanon, and in between the two the West Bank, and sometimes a bloody raid on other targets,” noting that there is no other country in the world like Israel.
Levy criticized the Israeli media, saying that it tries to convince the public that wars and bloodshed are “necessary.” Through campaigns to “demonize” and dehumanize the Palestinians, commentators are “successfully” selling Israelis the idea that they can live forever on blood.
He went on to say that the Israelis had already killed the Palestinian people, had begun committing mass massacres in Gaza, and were now moving to the West Bank, where he warned that blood would also be shed if someone did not stop the death squads.
He continued that it would take generations for Gaza to recover, if it could recover at all, according to his claim. He considered what was happening there to be genocide, stressing that no country could live on such an ideology.
